Between focusing on big projects at work, juggling the kids’ schedules, and caring for a home, it can be easy to let day after day go by without taking a real break. But if you’re starting to think you need a vacation, then you probably do. Here are some signs it’s time for one – and a few tips on what items you’ll really need to bring to help you relax:

1. You’re getting forgetful

We can all forget things from time to time and it’s not always a cause for concern. After all, there are a lot of things to remember during your busy day. However, starting to become forgetful could be a sign that you’re stressed out. Instead of remembering the long list of things on your to-do list, your brain decides it doesn’t actually need to store any of that information that you flagged as super important. No biggie, right? You can make reminders and write lists all you want. The only real solution to this problem is to get a little bit of that rest and relaxation time your brain is craving. Step away from the laptop, get outside, and get to the beach, a mountain, or wherever you need to go to really unwind.

2. You’re getting sick easily

It’s only natural that you get sick easily when you’re overworked. After all, the immune system is directly linked to stress levels — and on top of that, your body will never heal itself if you aren’t getting enough sleep.

Best of all, taking that vacation will probably help cut your daydreaming in the long run. Studies show that people who take breaks and vacations are actually way more productive than those who just push through their distractions and work ceaselessly.
