How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
I’ve been natural for about 2.5 years. I BC’d at the end of May 2008 after a year long transition
What are your staple products and hairstyles?
I’m very simple when it comes to products. All I use for conditioner is Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, Aussie Moist, and Silicon Mix. Styling wise, I use a shea butter/olive oil blend that I make myself, EcoStyler Olive Oil gel, coconut oil, and castor oil. That’s about it.
I wear my hear in twistouts or braidouts about 80% of the time, I flat iron here-and-there and wear buns sporadically as well.
What is your regimen?
I dont’ really consider myself having a regimen. I simply co-wash with one of the above named conditioners and then braidout/twistout. I try not to wear the braid/twist outs for longer than 4 days, as it caused too many tangles because of the unreleased shed hair.
What are your natural hair goals?
As of now, I really don’t have any goals because I’ve reached my initial goal of making BSL. I’m done growing hair for now! haha I’m in “maintaining mode”, and am trimming fairly regular to keep my ends in tip-top shape.
How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
I put my braid/twistouts into about 6-8 big twists loosely at night and then cover with a satin bonnet. If my hair is straightened, I usually put in in one big bun (bantu knot) at the top of my head, and throw a scarf on.
How do you maintain length?
Healthy hair practices—moisturizing regularly and not overdoing it with heat.
Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.
I went natural because I’d always thought natural hair was beautiful and made a statement. I love being natural because it showcases my uniqueness. No one else on this earth has the same hair that comes out of MY head. haha I love that it’s so versatile, and that I can be carefree with it, even when it comes to maintenance, and it still stays strong and healthy.
