I want to tell you the story about how I became natural.
I’ve had a perm since I was 13 years old. The same stylist who permed my hair then was still my stylist when I graduated high school. When I went away to college in the fall, my aunt would perm my hair once every three months for me. The trouble started just last year, my second year in school.
My aunt was more busier than usual so I decided to perm my own hair when it came time. It turned out great! The second time, my cousin (who is a certified beautician) permed and cut my hair. That was last December. March came and it was time for a touch up. I decided to go to a salon because I needed my hair to be trimmed some too.
Let me just say that I loved the way my hair looked after the guy did it. I would have went back too, until my hair started falling out that night. Yes, it fell out in clumps when I was combing it to wrap it. I told myself “it’s all good. Maybe its just dead hair.” This went on for a week, the same time I had finals so I didn’t have time to go back to the stylist.
When I finally finished all my tests I went back to the man, in tears. I had bald spots all over! He shaved the back of my head and trimmed the top. That day, I swore that I would never ever perm my hair again. My scalp was damaged and so was my heart. I hated the half shaved look! When I came home in June, my stylist had her barber cut all my hair even and then she dyed and styled my TWA. Yay for natural hair!!
