When did you start transitioning?
My Last relaxer was February 2010.

What inspired you to transition?
I’ve always admired natural hair but to be honest I never knew I could go back to being natural.  Sounds crazy but so true.  I was talking with my aunt how my hair hasn’t been the same since I had my daughter and she suggested growing my relaxer out.  I really had no choice.  Relaxing my hair became torture.

What are your staple products?
For Pre-Pooing I apply Cantu Shea Butter leave-in mixed with a little EVOO For Co-washes I use Suave Almond Shea Butter Conditioner. I use LeKair Cholesterol and ORS Replenishing Conditioner as Deep Conditioners My Favorite Shampoo is Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo For moisturizing I use Elasta QP’s Mango Butter Moisturizer with Olive Oil I use Olive Oil to seal my ends.

What’s your regimen?
I shampoo or co-wash 1-2 times per week depending on what I feel my hair needs.   I deep Condition once a week.  I moisturize and seal 2x a day.  I wear a Satin bonnet at night to protect my hair.

What’s the hardest thing about transitioning?
Having to decide on my hairstyles in advanced.  I don’t use heat on my hair so if I want to wear it out I may have to do my hair 2 days in advanced if I’m going somewhere special.  My hair takes a long time to airdry.  Finding unique styles is also a challenge for me.  I get bored easily and I like to switch up my styles each week.

Have you received any negative towards your decision to transition?
No, my younger brother occasionally jokes and says I need a relaxer but that’s expected from my bro.  Everyone I know is supportive and have been asking questions aout how I care for my hair.

Do you plan on big chopping or cutting the hair off gradually?
My plan is to transition for 18 months.  I am gradually trimming my hair every 1 1/2- 2 months.

What are your staple styles for transitioning?
Buns are so simple and you can play around with the front of your hair and bun the back.  I usually flat twist the front and bun the back.  If I want to wear my hair out, I will bantu knot my hair.  Lately I have been cornrowing my hair myself.  I have been searching the internet and magazines for braid styles to try out.

What do you hope to achieve with you natural hair that you cannot achieve with your hair in its current state?
Natural hair grows way faster than relaxed hair.  When I was a little girl, my hair was mid back length and that is my goal.  I want HEALTHY Long Hair.  I also want to be an example to others and show them that black hair can be healthy and can grow if you take care of it.  I am currently helping other women who are transitioning with my site Transitioning To Natural http://www.transitioningtonatural.ning.com
