How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
I’ve been natural for almost 3 years. My 3rd anniversary will be October ‘10. I BC’d 10/5/07 after transitioning for four months.
What are your staple products and hairstyles?
My staple products are BareFruit Coco Shea Hair Butter & BareFruit Daily Moisturizing Spray. I’m still on the hunt for a good all natural conditioner. My favorite styles are mini twists, puff & side puff and of course the fro!
What is your regimen?
I wash my hair every 2 weeks. I start off by sectioning my hair into fours. I then wash my hair & condition it in sections. I only detangle when my hair is saturated with conditioner. As I detangle, I put my hair into twists (about 12 of them)….then rinse. Once the conditioner is rinsed, I add BareFruit Coco Shea Hair Butter & BareFruit Daily Moisturizing Spray to each twisted section. I let it dry over night.
Daily, I spritz my hair & add butter as needed. The moisturizing spray helps trap in moisture & keep my ends soft.
What are your natural hair goals?
I just want healthy hair. However, I think if it grew too long, like waist length, I’d have to cut it down, for maintenance purposes!
How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
Before I go to bed, I dry twist my hair in about 12 twists. It helps keep it stretched and detangled.
How do you maintain length?
I maintain my length my keeping everything simple. With my hair, LESS is MORE. I don’t wash my hair several times a week and I’m not really into using a huge selection of different products. Low manipulation & protecting styling helps too. I’m not knocking the ladies who can wash their hair several times a week, or that like to use a lot of product, I just know what my hair can take. My hair would be on the floor if I did anything more to it than I already do!
Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.
I always had really long hair and all of my girlfriends envied it BUT…I had SO much damage from relaxers & heat. I had dandruff & excessive shedding. Nobody ever saw that side. I saw an Angelfire.com site of a lady who documented her 2 year transition. I saw her trials and new found love that she’d discovered with her hair. That led me to Fotki.com & Nappturality.com. From there, I was HOOKED!!
I love the versatility of my hair. I love the texture. I finally feel like I’ve discovered “me”…..I love the stares I get from women who perm their hair. I have a confidence that I’ve never had before. I am just flat out….in love!
