She needs no introduction….

How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
I have been natural for over 10 years, although I didn’t start taking care of my hair until late 2008. I didn’t BC around the time I went natural because I just didn’t care about my hair. “Going natural” was a bit of an accident, I just abruptly stopped relaxing, and started wearing braids/weaves.

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

My staple products are Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo, Paul Mitchell the Conditioner Leave-In, Miss Jessie’s Buttercreme, Komaza Care Coconut Curl Pudding, and Monoi De Tahiti Oil – My staple hair styles are Braid Outs & Twist Outs, however when my hair is straight, I opt for Caruso Sets.

What are your natural hair goals?

Simply put; to have a thick, healthy head of hair. Having a FULL BSL [bra-strap length] braid out would also be nice, but I would take health over length any day.

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?

I stuff all of my hair under a bonnet, and sleep per usual. For some reason sleeping with a bonnet on keeps my curls intact more so than tying my hair down with a scarf [using a scarf tends to flatten my hair a tad]. In the morning I usually fluff to separate the curls and go! – If my hair is feeling exceptionally dry at night, I will usually lightly spritz it with Oyin’s Juices & Berries and seal in the moisture with Monoi Oil before putting on my bonnet.

How do you maintain length?

I maintain length by moisturizing regularly, as well as minimizing my use of heat. Trimming when needed, and doing your hair in low tension hair styles also promote healthy hair growth. As a result, I try not to wear a lot of tight ponytials/buns/and other styles that put unnecessary tension on my hair.

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

One reason I went natural was to have a healthy head of hair, and more styling options. I have always admired women with big, curly hair, yet I never thought I could wear those styles because of the negative opinion I had when it came to my hair. I love my natural hair because of the versatility of it! I can wear a big curly fro, Dianna Ross-esque roller sets, or bone straight. I also love that I don’t have to rely on a pressing comb, or extensions to feel beautiful as I once had before.
