How long have you been natural and when did you BC?

Natural on and off through the years but officially “reborn” into the natural community on my BC July 4 weekend under the fireworks in 2010 after transitioning for a few months. My own mom didn’t recall what my natural hair looked like so curiosity killed the cat!

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

Most of them are ones I actually make in the kitchen such as a glycerin based spray that is like Gatorade for the hair and using the Ayurvedic oils. Purchased products are: Giovani & Cantu leave in conditioner, Bee Mine deep conditioner, Amazing Botanical Black soap & Malibu shampoo, Afroveda shea whip & oyin hair dew Taliah Waajid  The Detangler and aphogee’s keatin product. Oils: always Ayurvedic system oils, castor oil and coconut oil.  Protein treatment: Homemade: love the Shealoe moouse, avocado and egg/mayo conditioners.

Staple hairstyles: Wigs! Perfect for protection. Coily fro-hawk for my wash and go days, and the two strand twist pulled into a loose ponytail

What is your regimen?
Since I work out a lot my regiment is a series of things. For swimming I do more leave in conditioners and oils, while for a bike ride I might deep condition while cycling. Typically I wake up and refresh my hair with my homemade glycerin spray, add some oils because the night before I have refreshed my hair with some hair dew or some homemade shealoe butter mouse, bagged it and aired it out.

What are your natural hair goals?

My goal is to have my hair within 3 years to look like my wig I wear. Big coils and healthy! I am right on schedule J

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
If I am deep conditioning it then I will use bagging method with seran-wrap, condition it and sleep with hoping I wake up in time for my morning run and rinse it out. Typically I just use a satin pillow cap and satin wrap.

How do you maintain length?

I maintain length by combination taking care of my body internally and externally. I can use the right products all I want but if I am not giving myself the right nutrition internally with water, vitamins, working out etc then it’s pointless. I also make sure I moisturize my hair a lot! My hair speaks to me and tells e when it needs to “eat” I listen and respond.

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

I workout so much and needed to start over completely! I am loving the journey of healthy hair, mind body and spirit; which how I help found sportyafros.com.I think my hair is just an extension of who I am becoming and birthing into and hope to inspire others the same.
