EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: From Turnberry Isles to JW Marriott with John Rodgers

Turnberry Isles Miami, Autograph Collection has reopened as JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa. The extraordinary property features 680 rooms, 36-holes of championship golf, high-end dining options, renovated full-service spa, and the newly owned Tide Cove Water Park.

 

Our exclusive interview with Hotel Manager, John Rogers gives us a sneak peek into one of the “World’s Best Resorts” by Travel + Leisure Magazine.

BT:      Can you tell us about your company? What makes it unique?

 

John:  Tucked away on 300 acres between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Turnberry Isle Miami is a tropical oasis with a culture of accessible luxury and enriching experiences. The resort is renowned for its two championship golf courses, the state-of-the-art âme Spa & Wellness Collective, award-winning dining experiences, two relaxing pools, and meeting space – endless opportunities of pampered play. It is a recent Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Hotel and it was named at one of the Best Hotels in Miami by US News & World Report in 2017. It’s in the midst of a transformative expansion project concluding this December 2018 when it will emerge as, JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa. At the core of the expansion, a new luxury 16-story, an additional event space, a world-class, five-acre aquatic and upgrades to the main lobby, and front drive.

 

BT:     Can you please describe your typical day at work? What does your role entail?

 

John:  I have the best job in the business, overseeing the day-to-day operations of our resort in the capacity of Hotel Manager. I spend my day working with our talented team members and supporting their efforts to ensure world-class service and unique experiences are delivered daily to our guests.  In addition to hotel operations, I am working closely with our designers, construction team and owners on rebranding our resort to a JW Marriott. This keeps me very busy, but I thoroughly enjoy learning about this elegant brand and ensuring I am very familiar with their standards, so we can deliver unparalleled experiences when we launch the brand this fall.

 

BT:     What has been the most rewarding aspect of working for this company?

 

John:  Our owners, The Soffer family, are innovators single-handedly bringing the city of Aventura from a sketch on a cocktail napkin to life. Working for such a supportive and community-driven community makes our day-to-day work experience enjoyable and extremely fulfilling.

 

BT:     How do you create a sense of community for your guests / employees?

 

John:  As a hotel, we are very proud to participate in our Corporate-wide, community-focused initiative, INFINITE-T which revolves around the concept that every entity is boundless, unlimited, and self-sustaining. This idea is the core of everything we do. We always keep the following question in mind when making decisions: Will this be sustainable; how will it impact the next generation? If we are positively serving and impacting the surrounding community then that venture will be sustainable, it will be infinite. The INFINITE-T platform is designed to serve this core value. To instill in every decision and every team member that Turnberry is a community driven business. Knowing that if it is good for our community, it is good for us.

 

BT:     Which Boca Terry products do you use in your establishment?

 

John:  Bath robes in our 360 (soon to be 685) guestrooms and newly renovated âme Spa & Wellness Collective.

 

BT:     Would you recommend Boca Terry products to others? Why?

 

John:  Yes, very much so. Not only is the product first class but the service and response time is second-to-none.  Coming from the service industry, the latter is vital. My account representative is always available, and the team’s flexibility allows them to stand apart from their competition.
