Bundle Up! Discover How Cryotherapy Works & What to Expect

Published on Jul 14th 2017

Curious about the new “cryo” fad? Find out how cryotherapy works and what to expect.

Modern consumers have a profound interest in health, fitness and physical therapy. So, it’s no surprise that cryotherapy spas have now become a nationwide health fad. Cryotherapy has been endorsed by multiple celebrities and star athletes. But, what is cryotherapy exactly? Read on to learn about this fashionable new treatment, how cryotherapy works, and what to expect.

How Cryotherapy Works
Cryotherapy is a pain treatment therapy. First, you step into a freezing cold chamber chilled with liquid nitrogen. Then, you stand in the arctic temperature for a total of three minutes. If this whole body treatment isn’t your cup of tea, you can always opt for spot therapy. Spot therapy uses cold air to treat isolated parts of the body.

What Happens at the Spa
Now that you know how cryotherapy works, here’s what you can expect at the spa. After you fill out the necessary paperwork, the technician will ask you to remove your clothing. Then they’ll provide you with a warm bathrobe, closed-toe slippers and a spa headband. Once you’re all suited up, you will enter the cryo chamber. After the 3-minute treatment, you might do some light exercise to recover and restore blood flow.

Why It Matters
At the moment, there is no scientific data or research to support the treatment’s effectiveness. Still, regular users swear by it and its supposed benefits, including:

  • Pain management
  • Injury recovery
  • Tissue repair
  • Improved performance

If you’re still curious about how cryotherapy works, visit your local spa and ask for a tour of the facility. And if you do end up “doing cryo,” be sure to leave a comment and share your thoughts.
