The LocD Files: James

Published on Jan 3rd 2011

Meet James, one of my twitter followers and also the author of one of my fav poems My Queen and Natural Heir

What is your name and what do you do?

Jay , Engineer for Exxonmobil working on MBA

How long have you been growing out your locs?
5ish years lol

Who is your loctician?

myself, so much cheaper that way

What is your regimen for your locs?

Pretty laxed; I wash every two or three weeks and palm roll with twist and loc gel every other wash

Have your locs ever hindered you professionally?

Lol funny story there… I use my locs to blaze new trails for black males. I graduated college with 2+ years of work experience so I had my choice in careers, I chose to go with private industry due to known challenges to minorities.  At one point my HR rep suggested I cut my locs, citing it may hinder my career progression.  Three promotions and a year and an half later I’ve surpassed him in pay grade and rank.

Any advice to someone just starting out on their journey?

Don’t quit and stick with it. Pick a loc size that compliments your curl pattern, makes upkeep a breeze.
